OCOP was inspired by Dr. Prakasham Bhavanasi. He was a physician in India, well-known for his love of children and commitment to secure proper care for his patients in remote parts of Southern India. He grew up as an impoverished child, experiencing unsanitary living conditions and insufficient access to resources. Despite his inopportune circumstances, through perseverance and hard work, he went on to become a physician while undergoing many hardships. His personal experiences made him privy to the obstacles one can face, and he became resolute in his passion for empowering children and building the capacity of communities through access to healthcare and education. He is the father and grandfather of the founders of this organization, who work to further his vision and legacy through OCOP.
OCOP brings in a diverse set of local and international teachers specializing in various subjects to provide quality education. Topics range from math and English-language skills to biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, health education, computer skills, public policy, and many more. OCOP provides school supplies and merit-based scholarships for children unable to attend school due to financial limitations. Additionally, OCOP is a proud funder of school lunches so that schools can meet the nutritional needs of students and every child can access nutritious food.
OCOP uses the services of local and international physicians, dentists, nurses, and other healthcare personnel to meet the medical and dental needs of underserved children and communities. OCOP is committed to a preventive-care approach and ensuring that good hygiene and living conditions are attainable. OCOP has a long history of conducting medical, dental, and vision camps for communities to receive imminent care and access to regular wellness exams, immunizations, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and eyeglasses.
OCOP has strong partnerships with sustainable energy companies, especially those focusing on affordable and portable Solar LED lights. We work to ensure that communities living in off-the-grid areas can access lighting. Millions of families in remote areas depend upon kerosene lamps to carry out their daily activities. Kerosene lamps have detrimental health consequences, such as blindness, burn injuries, and damage to the respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems. Portable solar LED lights provide a safe and healthy alternative. Additionally, inaccessibility to clean drinking water is still a pervasive problem in many developing countries. OCOP works to ensure accessibility by partnering with energy companies that manufacture solar water purification systems, which are economical alternatives to avoid health hazards from drinking contaminated water.
OCOP aims to knit a multicultural fabric that improves livelihood and contributes to human progress. We believe that fine arts, such as music, dance, and theater, are healthy forms of self-expression connecting individuals from diverse backgrounds and improving social well being. OCOP links instrumentalists, vocalists, dancers, and other artists from around the globe to share in common venues and platforms for mutual fine arts enrichment and development.
